Grade – Upper Elementary
Level - Intermediate Reading/Conversation Skills
Reading longer articles / magazines / short chapter books
Month 2 Issues
Episodes 1-2 – Tales of the West
Episodes 3-4 – Disaster
Level 3 is for upper elementary school students who are reading longer magazine articles or are starting to read chapter books. The subjects and vocabulary are more mature, suitable for this age range. The focus is on the harder words and phrases that we know many Taiwanese students may not be familiar with at this age. The pace is quicker, and these interesting stories and themes open up the conversation even more. We also welcome Jr. high students to join for some great conversation and fun practice.

❓Q: Is this camp a brand new theme?
A: Yes. This camp features a completely new theme, carefully designed by our team over six months.
❓Q: Does the camp fee include meals? Are snacks provided?
A: Yes, lunch is included. Lunch options typically include nutritious meal boxes, bento, dumplings with soy milk, or rice rolls. Afternoon snacks are also provided, usually consisting of a small drink such as soy milk or juice along with a small packaged snack.
❓Q: My child is vegetarian. Can vegetarian meals be provided?
A: Yes, we can arrange vegetarian meal boxes. Please make sure to indicate this clearly on the registration form.
❓Q: Can I make changes after registering?
A: Yes, changes can be made before June 22, 2026. Requests submitted after June 22 (such as switching classes or sessions) will incur a NT$200 administrative fee.
❓Q: The camp photo link is no longer accessible. Can it be extended?
A: We do our best to document students’ experiences during camp and upload photos to a shared cloud folder after the program. However, due to limited storage space, the link will be removed after a certain period. If you would like us to re-share the photos, a NT$300 administrative fee will apply. Thank you for your understanding.
❓Q: My child is already in junior high school. Can they still join?
A: Absolutely. We are always happy to welcome our former young scientists as they grow older. Whether it is your child’s first time joining or they have explored science with us before, they are more than welcome to participate. Our camp is engaging and appropriately challenging, ensuring students have both a fun and rewarding learning experience. We look forward to seeing them at camp again.
❓Q: My child’s English level is not very strong. Can they still join?
A: Our program focuses on developing problem-solving skills and the ability to think in English, so it is best suited for students who are already somewhat comfortable in an English environment. If your child is at a beginner level or has little to no English background, we recommend starting with our one-day weekend programs to build confidence in an English setting before joining the full 5-day immersion camp.
❓Q: What is the difference between the younger and older groups? If my child is entering Grade 4, which group will they be placed in?
A: Younger Group - Some key vocabulary and concepts that may be unfamiliar to students will be supported with a small amount of Chinese to aid understanding. During experiments, more complex steps may be pre-prepared or assisted by teachers.
Older Group - Students will explore scientific concepts in greater depth, with more open-ended questions, discussions, and opportunities for dialogue. They will also engage in more complex experiments that challenge their fine motor skills.
Students entering Grade 4 may be placed in either group depending on enrollment numbers.
If your child is less comfortable in an English environment, please indicate a preference for the younger group on the registration form.
If your child has a stronger English level, you may request placement in the older group.
❓Q: My child has strong English and hands-on skills. Can they join a different age group?
A: Our camps are designed specifically for different age groups, and even a one-year difference can affect how well students understand certain concepts. For this reason, cross-age placement is generally not recommended.
However, if your child is very interested in joining a different group, we may allow it provided that a parent is able to accompany them throughout the program.
❓Q: My child is in kindergarten (senior level). Can they join the younger group?
A: The camp is primarily designed for elementary school students. For summer camps, children who are about to enter Grade 1 may be allowed to join the younger group if they are comfortable in a full English environment and have strong hands-on abilities. In such cases, a parent must accompany the child throughout the program.
❓Q: My child is in Grade 4 or 5. Can they join the younger group?
A: Yes, it is possible, especially if your child would like to join with a younger sibling. However, it is generally not recommended for older students.
If your child has a more beginner level of English or lacks confidence, the younger group may be a better fit, as the content is slightly more accessible and easier to follow.
Both the younger and older groups offer fun and engaging activities, so you can feel confident in either option.
❓Q: Do parents need to personally bring their child into the classroom?
A: If parking is not available near the venue, we will arrange designated drop-off times where staff will wait outside to receive students. Detailed arrangements will be shared in the LINE group after the class is confirmed.
❓Q: What if I cannot pick up my child before 5:00 PM?
A: The camp provides a grace period for pickup until 5:30 PM.
Late pickup fees apply as follows:
-
5:30–6:00 PM: NT$150 (30 minutes)
-
5:30–6:30 PM: NT$300 (1 hour)
Pickup later than 6:30 PM is not available.
If the classroom is no longer available after camp, staff will wait with the students at the entrance. Please make appropriate arrangements in advance.
❓Q: Sitting all day may be tiring for children. Is there time for physical activity?
A: Yes. We will rearrange the classroom by moving tables and chairs to create space for simple indoor physical activities and group games.
❓Q: Is the camp conducted entirely in English?
A: The camp is primarily conducted in English. For more difficult vocabulary, we may provide brief Chinese explanations to ensure students understand key concepts.
Our goal is to create a fully immersive English environment where students learn to think and respond in English. Taiwanese teaching assistants are available to provide support if a student has difficulty understanding or completing an activity.
❓Q: Are all teachers native English-speaking teachers?
A: Yes. The camp is taught by experienced international teachers. During the program, students will also have the opportunity to meet Dr. Sparks and Doc Z, whom many children may already recognize from our live events and YouTube videos.
❓Q: What happens if there is a typhoon or natural disaster and classes cannot be held?
A: In the event of a typhoon, heavy rain, earthquake, or other natural disasters, class cancellations will follow official announcements from local government authorities or the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration. No separate notification will be issued, but updates will also be posted on our Facebook page.
To ensure the completeness of the camp program, Sparkle & Shine reserves the right to arrange a make-up class on a Saturday or Sunday. If a make-up session is scheduled and a student is unable to attend, refunds will not be provided.
If no make-up session is arranged, a 70% refund for that day will be issued.
❓Q: Can my child take a sick leave or miss a class due to unexpected reasons? Is a refund or credit available?
A: We’re sorry, but temporary absences are not eligible for refunds or make-up classes. Students may pick up the materials and selected supplies to take home.
❓Q: What is your refund policy?
A: Once registration and payment have been completed, full refunds are not available for any reason. Refunds are issued based on the timing of the cancellation request:
-
31 days or more before the camp start date: 90% refund
-
21–30 days before the camp start date: 80% refund
-
2–20 days before the camp start date: 70% refund
-
Within 1 day before the camp start date: 50% refund
-
After the camp begins: no refund
Refunds will be transferred to the designated account after deducting a NT$30 bank transfer fee.
